Objectives
By the end of this lesson.
- Understand what UGR assesses and what it does not guarantee.
- Connect visual comfort, layout, luminance and context of use.
What UGR measures
UGR is a method of assessing discomfort glare in a given situation. The result depends on the installation, luminaires, their positions, the observation point and the surroundings.
The limits of product shortcuts
“UGR < 19” in documentation can guide selection, but it does not automatically guarantee that every project configuration meets this level. Room geometry remains decisive.
Screens, contrasts and luminance
Workstation comfort also depends on visible luminous surfaces, reflections, contrasts and positioning relative to screens. A rigorous study must consider all of these factors.
Validation
The engineering consultant remains responsible for the calculation and verification of the result. Potentiel's role is to provide reliable data, suitable references and verification material.
