Potentiel Lighting Academy

Understand light. Then specify it better.

A progressive pathway from photometric terminology to specification and substitutions. The lessons are independent of any external certification and confer no DIALux or manufacturer status.

01

Progressive.

Start with the basics or go straight to the level that suits your experience.

02

Traceable.

Product or standards-related concepts must only be added with explicit sources and technical review.

03

Connected to the project.

Each lesson should help you better prepare a calculation, specification, tender or technical inspection.

Level 1

Fundamentals

Build the essential vocabulary and understanding before comparing luminaires.

  1. 01Luminous flux, illuminance, intensity and luminance.Master photometric quantities before comparing luminaires or reading a lighting calculation.
  2. 02CCT, CRI and colour rendering quality.Understand the colour of light and the limitations of a choice based on a single number.

Level 2

Lighting design

Progress from basic quantities to photometry, comfort and the calculation workflow.

  1. 03UGR, glare and visual comfort.Interpret UGR correctly and understand why comfort cannot be reduced to a catalogue value.
  2. 04Read a photometric curve and choose the optics.Connect photometry, optics and an application without confusing total luminous flux with distribution.
  3. 05DIALux workflow: from plans to reports.Structure a DIALux study without confusing modelling, product selection and project validation.

Level 3

Systems & operation

Understand drivers, controls, service life and constraints that influence the actual system.

  1. 06Drivers, DALI, sensors and control scenarios.Understand the control architecture before specifying a DALI variant or a connected system.
  2. 07LED service life, thermal management and electrical quality.Interpret service life and light quality data beyond a simple number of hours.

Level expert

Expert / specification

Structure a specification, equivalence assessment or VISA approval using traceable, verifiable criteria.

  1. 08Technical specifications, equivalents, VISA approvals and substitutions.Turn technical criteria into a verifiable specification and assess a variant without shortcuts.

What the Academy is not.

Potentiel Lighting Academy is educational content from Potentiel Énergie. It does not award DIALux certification, regulatory qualifications or manufacturer certification. The requirements of an actual project remain to be verified in context, using the applicable documents and standards.
