You define the target.
The target lux level must come from your brief, requirements and the standards applicable to the project.
Technical assistant
This assistant guides you without inventing technical data. Product equivalences and specifications remain based on verified manufacturer information.
Specifier tools / Preliminary sizing
Calculate an indicative number of luminaires using your own assumptions. The method is deliberately transparent: no illuminance level, factor or product is selected for you.
The target lux level must come from your brief, requirements and the standards applicable to the project.
Utilisation and maintenance factors depend on the room, optics, surfaces and operating conditions.
Light distribution, layout, uniformity and glare require an appropriate photometric calculation.
Preliminary sizing
Enter your own assumptions. The result uses only the lumen method and does not replace a photometric study or checks on uniformity, glare or compliance.
The result will appear here once all assumptions have been entered.
The estimate starts from the area and target illuminance to determine the required luminous flux, then adjusts that flux using the utilisation and maintenance factors entered. The number of luminaires is rounded up to the next whole number based on the specified unit luminous flux.
This calculation does not know the luminaire's photometric curve, height or layout. It therefore cannot demonstrate uniformity, UGR, compliance with a standard or the suitability of a specific reference.
